COLLEGE SEEKING NOMINATIONS FOR ‘LIVING LEGEND’ STATUS

June 22, 2005 - Collin County Community College District (Collin) is seeking nominees for its third annual Living Legends Tribute, honoring pillars of the community. Anyone may nominate a Living Legend, but those nominated must live and work in Collin County. Nomination forms for this special distinction are due in the CCCCD Foundation, Inc. office by Sept. 6.

Underwritten by Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano, the 2005 Living Legends Tribute ceremony and dinner will be held Nov. 12 in the new conference center at the college’s Spring Creek Campus in Plano. Proceeds from the event will go toward the Living Legends Endowment Fund, which supports student scholarships and academic success.

Past honorees include: Gladys Harrington, credited for starting Plano’s first library; John and Myrtle Hightower, longtime Plano residents and educators; Gerry Ruschhaupt, McKinney business owner; and Dr. Erwin and Elisabeth Pink of Frisco, community activists.

“Collin County is full of people whose legendary leadership will impact the lives of generations to come. Unfortunately, many of these humble heroes go unsung,” said college President Cary Israel. “This program is intended to be a point of unity for the entire county, so we strongly encourage people from cities throughout Collin County to make nominations.”

Selection of Living Legends will be based on the following criteria:

• Nominees must reflect the college’s core values: learning, service and involvement, creativity and innovation, academic excellence, dignity and respect, and integrity.

• Nominees must have profoundly shaped the progress of their communities and have a record of service and philanthropy in Collin County.

• While families, groups or organizations cannot be selected for this event, individuals associated with a group are eligible.

The community is invited to participate and may purchase tables of 8 for $400 or individual tickets for $60. In addition, corporations and/or families can choose to support the college through a special contribution as Humanitarian Sponsors at the $5,000 level.
