Bob Warren’s legendary contributions can be found all over Frisco, the fast-growing city that benefits from his dedication to both progress and preservation. The bustling Warren Parkway and the energy-packed Warren Sports Complex are named for him. He inspires action with no need for the spotlight, and his witty sense of humor is priceless. Born in Frisco, Mr. Warren graduated from Frisco High School in 1938 at the top of his class. After earning a degree in marketing and finance from Texas A&M University, he served as an airborne troop carrier pilot during World War II. Following a career in the oil industry, Mr. Warren and his wife, Ann, returned to their hometown in 1981. They have five children and celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year. Mr. Warren worked to promote a partnership between the city of Frisco and other government entities, a practice that has become a model for other communities. He was elected to the Frisco City Council in 1983 and served 13 years, the last seven as mayor. He also was a founding member and vice president of the Frisco Economic Development Corporation. During his tenure as a community leader, the city won the Stonebriar Centre mall and plans were laid to extend the Dallas North Tollway to Frisco. Preserving Frisco’s rich history is a labor of love for Mr. Warren, who is a charter member of the Heritage Association of Frisco. He has become a beloved city historian, writing community magazine columns chronicling historical facts and anecdotes, which have been compiled into a book, Frisco — Now and Then. The book has an honored spot in each of Frisco’s school libraries, and its author often visits the schools to share local history lessons and participate in Career Day events. Frisco residents for generations to come will cherish Bob Warren’s contributions. |
