Real People, Extraordinary Gifts

F red and Mazzie Moses have made an indelible mark on the Plano community. From their business success story to their civic contributions, they have exemplified what it means to erase boundaries, break down barriers and open doors.

They started Telecom Electric Supply Co. in 1985 with one computer in a tiny office on Avenue G. At that time, the business was an inter-connect company selling small-key telephone systems. Within a year they were expanding their product line as well as their office space, and the addition of employees soon followed. By 1989 Telecom Electric Supply began making headlines and winning minority business awards, including the KRLD Metroplex African-American Making History Award. Today the company is a full-line electrical distributor providing jobs for 20 employees.

In 1989, Mr. Moses started the Plano Chamber of Commerce's Minority Enterprise Development Week Conference to recognize and provide opportunities for African-American businesses. The chamber now recognizes a business each year with the Fred Moses Minority Business Development Award.

Mr. Moses was one of the founders of the Plano Community Forum, which awards scholarships and brings multicultural events to the city. He also helped establish Plano's annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.

He has been a mentor for Plano Independent School District students, and he chairs the steering committee of the North Texas Commission’s Mentor-Entrepreneur Program. He is also a commissioner for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which serves 23 different industries for the state. His board memberships include the Plano Day Care Center and Plano Community Homes Inc. for senior citizens.

Mrs. Moses is a past recipient of the Plano Chamber's Athena Award for outstanding women business leaders. She has served as an officer for the Plano Community Forum, the John F. Hightower Foundation and the Links Organization. In addition, she serves on numerous committees for service organizations such as the Volunteer Center of Collin County.

Mr. and Mrs. Moses, who have two children and three grandchildren, share a powerful commitment to education. They are longtime friends and supporters of the Collin County Community College District, and both have served on committees for the Plano Independent School District.

Fred and Mazzie Moses are all about creating opportunities and expanding horizons - entrepreneurial, educational and humanitarian.
