Mrs. Harrington was born in Paris, Texas on May 29, 1901. A Plano resident since the age of 16, she graduated from Plano High School in 1919 and married Frederick Harrington later that year. After raising two sons, Mrs. Harrington put her time and talents into community service. Among her many accomplishments, she is credited with being solely responsible for starting Plano’s first library and serving as chairman of the Plano Public Library Board for 13 years. In addition, she helped found the Plano Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the Plano Chamber of Commerce, Plano Heritage Association and the Fine Arts League of Plano. Plano Symphony Orchestra’s annual Collin County Young Artists Competition. Mrs.Harrington has been very involved in politics including helping create the Collin County Republican Party and serving as a delegate in many elections. She has also taken time to stop and enjoy the view, traveling to many places all over the U.S. and the world. Because of her sunny disposition, she is often referred to as “Plano’s Sundial.” At the inaugural Living Legends Ceremony in 2003, Mrs. Harrington was presented with an honorary degree from the college to acknowledge her lifetime of dedication and remarkable achievements.
